If you’ve ever thought about being a chapter leader, we have many committees from which you can choose to begin your journey as a chapter leader. Please contact any of your chapter leadership if you think chapter leadership might be of interest to you.  We will be happy to introduce you to any positions of interest.  Open positions include:

Governance Committee Member 2
Leadership Succession Committee Member
Governance Committee Member 1

Your chapter leaders also wish to know what you’d like included in your membership.  We have included a “New Member Survey” if you would like to take the brief survey to include what you’d like to receive from your chapter membership and recommendations to orientation to our chapter. We’d also like to know your preference for meeting times so that we can accommodate the majority of attendees.  Your Xi Phi chapter leaders are here to serve our members and with your input we wish to create a great experience for you. I will be happy to have the surveys come to me sfinke@uccs.edu and I will share with the leadership team.

Our meetings are schedule for the 3rd Thursday of September, November, January, March, and May.  We meet at University Hall, Beth-El College of Nursing & Health Sciences. If you are interested in sitting in on a meeting, please contact me, and I will forward you the agenda items.

Denise Millot will also need volunteer help with planning programs and also induction. These are a great way to get involved and meet the other members.

A special thank you to all members, we appreciate you. I look forward to serving you as a chapter leader.

  • National Domestic Violence Awareness

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which first began in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence as a Day of Unity to connect battered women’s advocates across the country.

Domestic violence affects millions, both women and men, of every race, religion, culture and status. It’s not just punches and black eyes — it’s yelling, humiliation, stalking, manipulation, coercion, threats and isolation. It’s stealing a paycheck, keeping tabs online, non-stop texting, constant use the silent treatment, or calling someone stupid so often they believe it.

Since the Violence Against Women Act passed in 1994, we’ve come a long way. This landmark legislation, led by then Senator Joe Biden, combined new provisions that hold offenders accountable and provide programs and services for victims. Between 1993 and 2010, the overall rate of domestic violence dropped nearly two-thirds and state laws have reformed to address issues such as dating abuse in the workplace, stalking, employment discrimination and more.

Join TESSA and Sigma Theta Tau Xi Phi Chapter in raising public awareness about domestic violence and how to prevent it in our community. Throughout the month, there are a variety of educational and interactive events planned. We invite you to attend as many events as you can because we need everyone’s help in ending domestic violence.

  • TESSA Holiday Shoppe

    Hello Xi Phi Members,

THANK YOU to everyone who donated gifts to TESSA for their annual Holiday Shoppe.  We brought #40 gifts to TESSA on Monday, December 3rd, 2018.  There is still time to donate a gift card if you would like to.  Our tree in University Hall will be lit until Friday, December 14th.  You can pick up a donation card anytime until then.  Place your gift card in one of the White envelopes on the tree and drop off at our administrative office to Shellie Harden.

Joanna and I will be volunteering tomorrow, Thursday, December 6th to assist families with their holiday shopping.  Join us if you would like at 455 Gold Pass Heights, Colorado Springs, CO.

Holiday Shoppe helps more than 100 families annually, providing the opportunity for adults and children to exchange gifts during the holiday season as they work with TESSA to build lives of safety and self-sufficiency. TESSA Families are invited to the main office to ‘shop’ from a variety of new items (all donations from our generous community) and of course, all ‘shopping’ is free. Guardians and children can also have the gifts they’ve selected wrapped so they leave ready for their holiday celebration.
    With kindness and respect,
